Dr Wagih El-Masri is Spinal Injury Lead at Hunters Moor in Birmingham.

Following graduation from Cairo University Medical School and training at Guys Hospital, London, Oxford, Stoke Mandeville and in the USA between 1971 and 1982, Professor Wagih El-Masri obtained the first accreditation in the specialities of spinal injuries and general surgery by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1982. From 1983 to 2015, he led the Midland Centre for Spinal Injuries at the RJAH Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry.

Professor El Masri is internationally recognised as an expert in spinal injury and has been involved in several international spinal injury societies and lectured worldwide. He was Chairman of the British Association of Spinal Cord Injury Specialists (BASCIS) between 1999 and 2006, President of the International Spinal Cord Society between 2009 & 2011 and has advised the World Health Organisation on Spinal Cord Injuries.
